Eyeliner Process

First, a major side note. I want to start posting more often. I know, I've been saying that forever, and I am always crazy busy because I'm kind of a workaholic and love to give myself a bunch of projects to do, but as I've continued to work more and more I have been getting better at managing my time and everyday I get closer and closer to my creative goals.

Here's the first of many process sketching and process posts that show and talk about how I go about creating a piece. This one is something I created for my fashion illustration blog.

I started by drawing out the piece in pencil on textured water colour paper. I tried to use different eye shapes for the different eye liner styles.

I then inked in the eyes using a thin nib pen with black india ink. I added the eye lashes for more detail. Once the ink was dry, I erased the pencil underneath.

The last thing I did traditionally was to paint the eyes and eyeliner with water color.

The very last thing I did was to edit and re-arrange the eyes in photoshop in order to make the flow of the piece a little more cohesive. I wanted to start with the simplest eye liner styles and get to the thicker or more detailed ones last. I pushed up the contrast so that the picture looked brighter.

And there you go, my very first process post. I work with a variety of different mediums and in a variety of different ways so I'm really excited for what's to come with these posts, and I hope you'll enjoy them too.

Lots of love,
